The MCS Plymouth Local Group are working in collaboration with PADI Project AWARE and MCS Beachwatch to help clean our seas and keep them 'fit for life'. We hold our annual underwater cleanup on the third weekend in September each year, during the MCS Beachwatch weekend on International Cleanup Day during Project AWARE month. During the third weekend in September each year, volunteers get together at out adopted beach at Batten Bay for a combined beach clean and underwater cleanup. As usual, all equipment is provided for beach cleaners (see the Beach Cleans page for more details) but divers should bring their own SCUBA gear, in test, as we cannot provide this for you. There is a separate survey form for the divers to fill in to record the rubbish they find underwater, which we do once they are back on the beach at the end of the dive. The survey data is sent to both the MCS and PADI Project AWARE for analysis and use in their campaigns. The nearest dive centre to Batten Bay is In Deep, at the Mount Batten Centre. They have air fill facilities available for divers and may be able to provide kit hire. Their dive club usually joins us for this event.
