Scylla Form
The National Marine Aquarium (NMA), Seasearch and the Marine Life Biodiversity Network (MarLIN) have launched a new scheme, "Settling on Scylla", which aims to monitor which species of marine life are choosing to makes Scylla their home. If you have dived Scylla, please help us by filling in the Scylla form. The form merely asks you to tick which of the species listed you have seen, cross those you have not seen (equally important, as some species settle for a time then move on), the amount of that species you saw and how confident you are of your identifications. The accompanying ID guide for this form has been sent out to all the local dive centres and boat skippers, so if you're unsure of what any of the species are and don't have your own ID guide to hand, ask your skipper if you can see a copy. The form should only take a few minutes to complete but the information you provide is invaluable!

Seasearch Slates
Don't forget, you will probably need to write some information down during your dive to record on the survey forms. There are now two sizes of Seasearch slate available, which have been made up especially for Seasearch divers.
One is a pocket version you can carry in your BCD and have available on every dive. The other is A4 size and essential for serious recording. Both slates have a clip to attach to your BCD, a pencil on an elasticated line, a simple aide memoir to the Seasearch recording sequence and a metric scale on the bottom so you can find out exactly how big things are underwater!
The cost of these slates is a very reasonable £5.00 for the pocket slate and £7.50 for the A4 one, + postage if you are buying on line.
The pencil won't last forever of course and there are now have Seasearch pencils available, made from recycled plastic cups. They last much longer underwater than a wooden pencil and are a recycled product. They are 60p each.
You can buy your slates and pencils directly from the MCS website, at http://www.mcsuk.org (click on "Shop", "Seasearch Books & Survey Materials", then click on "Survey Accessories").
