| About our Group | |||
If you are interested in becoming actively involved with marine conservation in Devon, then look no further than the MCS Plymouth Local Group! We offer a great way to learn about marine life, whilst helping to support the Marine Conservation Society (MCS) - the UK charity dedicated to caring for our seas, shores and wildlife - through fundraising, membership recruitment and MCS promotion. The group was founded in 2002 and is in regular contact with more than 150 people on it's mailing list. We meet on the last Thursday of each month at the Marine Biological Association (MBA) on Plymouth Hoe, where our guest speakers cover a wide variety of marine topics. Members of the Local Group receive a membership card that allows them to get into these meetings for free. Everyone is welcome to attend though and entrance costs just £2 on the door. See the 'Monthly Meetings' page for more details. Joining the group is easy and costs just £10 per year. All you need to do is come along to one of our meetings and sign up, paying your £10 at the door (cash or cheque - cheques made payable to 'MCS Plymouth Local Group'). We will need to know your name and email address when you sign up, and will give you a membership card that allows you to get into our meetings for free all year. Your email address is important as you will be emailed at least once a month with details of our upcoming meetings and other events. If you do not have an email address we may be able to arrange to post information to you - please speak to us at one of our meetings for further information. As well as monthly meetings, the Plymouth Local Group organises a variety of other events such beach cleans, underwater cleanups, snorkelling safaris and courses, for example underwater photography, marine life identification, marine ecology and Marine Mammal Medic (with British Divers Marine Life Rescue, BDMLR). See the 'Events' section for more details. If you would like to get in touch with the group, or have any questions, please email mcsplymouthlocalgroup@hotmail.com or check the relevant pages of this website. |
